Abstract:

"Colonial fairs were held throughout America in the 17th and 18th centuries. The idea was to bring people in the community together. There were those who came to buy and sell their crafts or livestock. Gentlemen came to conduct business in court or attend political assemblies. There were many who came for such events as horse races, fiddle contests and foot races. A colonial fair had musicians, puppeteers, dancers, fortune tellers, and even fireworks. Taverns and inns were the hotels of the day where a weary traveller would find a room and a hot meal. We created fictional characters and stories to bring the songs to life."
